Family/Livelihoods

The Family Support and Empowerment Program, run by Save One Life, seeks to address the multifaceted needs of individuals and families affected by hemophilia in Kenya. Through sponsorship, scholarships, microenterprise grants, and community outreach, the program aims to empower and uplift families, contributing to their resilience and improved quality of life.

Sponsorship Program

The sponsorship component of the program focuses on matching individuals with hemophilia or their family members with sponsors who can provide financial assistance. We have 52 beneficiaries. These sponsorships can cover various needs, including medical expenses, education, and daily living costs. The goal is to alleviate financial burdens, ensuring that individuals with hemophilia and their families can access essential resources without undue hardship.

Microenterprise Grants (MEG)

Recognizing the importance of economic empowerment, the program includes a component that provides Microenterprise grants. We have a total of 14 running. These grants aim to support the establishment or expansion of small businesses or income-generating activities for individuals with hemophilia or their family members. By fostering economic independence, the program seeks to enhance the overall quality of life for families affected by hemophilia.

Scholarship Program

The program aims to empower individuals with hemophilia by providing educational opportunities through scholarships. This support can encompass primary, secondary, and tertiary education, enabling those affected by hemophilia to pursue their academic aspirations. Scholarships contribute not only to personal development but also to breaking down barriers and stigmas associated with hemophilia. We have 5 ongoing scholarships.

Outreach

Community outreach initiatives are a crucial aspect of the program, aiming to connect families, raise awareness, and provide educational resources. Outreach efforts involve organizing events, workshops, and support groups that bring together individuals and families affected by hemophilia. These initiatives foster a sense of community, reduce isolation, and provide a platform for sharing experiences and knowledge.

In addition to these programs, we run annual events that are aimed at bringing the Bleeding Disorders community together to have fun and to discuss challenges and needs. We also run fundraising campaigns, public awareness programs as well as lobby the government of Kenya to be sensitive to the needs of this community.
